RECENT POSTS:

You may have noticed that my typical proclamations on matters political, cultural, and other lofty issues have been absent lately. In addition to whatever's been keeping me busy lately, that's due to a growing sense that the more I learn, the less I know. Which, in turn, has made me question the content and focus of much of my observation. As a result, my energies of late have been directed into gentle experimentation, changes of routine, fitness, conservation, and breaking down old assumptions. I've felt so much pressure to have certain answers lately that I feel I've lost touch with the wonder in the questions. It was a long winter, and I want to feel the sun. The rest can wait.

What's On My Mind April 2008

Hard to believe it after all this time, but in February I wrote my first original tune in the Irish traditional style. It's a jig called The Moon-Bog, and you can read more about it, hear it, and view the sheet music in the Sounds section.

Been sprucing up my MySpace page a little (dig those videos). Still not sure if there's a need for anyone over 18 to have such a page, but it's an easy and fun way to collect and share interests and get in touch. You can also search for me on Facebook, though I'm only getting started there.

SONGS:

King's X, 'Alright'
It's great to have this band back (new album May 20). First tune mixes charging, dark rock with gospel-fueled call & response.

M83, 'Kim & Jessie'
I really like the way this tune summons multiple 80s references (think Flock of Seagulls + Dream Academy). Great payoff toward the end.

James Brown, 'Ain't It Funky Now' (live 1971)
Hot, hot, hot, hot.
