Poem: Nowhere

Up, up it comes, and over the rim, and I'm chasing it.
And I burst out into the dark
Wasted on nothing, giddy
I run to you, but you're not there
And I open my arms to empty air
I race out to nowhere.

I circle the scene of my folly
The bruised armor rattling alongside
I blow dust from Claire's buoyant crystal ball
And see myself trying to teleport
somewhere, anywhere,
Ahead from before, back from nowhere.

You leap to your feet and spring lightly about
I'm not sure how much of you is really there
You're an early spring day with your flax and apple cheek
And a sky blue promise rimmed in horns
Inside I rewind and laugh at the distance
From this feeling to nowhere.

And I want everything I've been saving up to want
And I want to spill this dream-drunken seed around my roots
And I see the nothingness of elsewhere, elsewhen
And I don't want to be anywhere but right where I am

It's the only place that's somewhere.

Claire de Lune? Styx,"Crystal Ball" Ballerina? Just curious about the reference.

What happened to Ann Marie?

I'm afraid the true nature of poor Claire is far more mundane than where you're looking. I don't want to spell out too much meaning in print--I'd rather let the reader make their own sense--but here's a hint: who's likely to use a crystal ball?

Ann Marie remains her ever-evolving self, which I'm a supporter of even as it's taken our paths in considerably divergent directions.

Hey Kev,
Cool web page, stumbled upon it via SK's, nice little read!
Never heard of Robyn Hitchcock until I saw Grant Lee Phillips was doing a cover and I'm like who the fuck is Robyn Hitchcock, hows that for being 20 something years late!
Anyway could just be an OZ thing not enough exposure or that I didn't dig deep enough.
Anyway so now I know.
Cheers
Some Dude for Melbourne

I'm sorry.
